Today we are going to explore together 3 simple secrets of effective change.
Why do you think I often ask you questions – when I reply to your emails – when I write articles like this one?
Because, even if I give you the answer now – just a moment or two later – or never – asking you a question puts your mind (and life) in active mode. You have to think, or imagine what the answer is – actively. (More more effective in creating change than just telling you something outright.)
Next. One day, one of my Native American elders asked me why I thought they told so many “teaching stories”?
(Sometimes a story can be told in a single sentence – like how I mentioned “Native American Elders asking me” in the sentence above.)
I told him why – because stories build depth and activate imagination – again producing much more effective results than simply “step by step”.
Then I wondered – and started experimenting with my clients – what would happen if I combined – simple short stories – often single sentence ones – with questions?
And if you pay attention – that’s what I’ve done above – and odds are – that’s something you’ll find yourself doing more and more.
Because – these are ancient methods of teaching – teaching by leading – and teaching by training the student to be active in the process – not just passive in receiving. Because if you are active in learning – you are already appplying – and that makes integrating it into your life much easier.

PS: I read. I read a lot. Instructional things. Emails. Articles. Books. I read more than I watch videos – though videos have their place in my life. Why? Because reading requires that we exercise our imagination. How much more effective were the “old imaginers” who read for an hour or more a day – than the new ones – who are passively spoon fed “the truth” with videos. Remember, your mind works in three primary parts – visual – auditory – and kinesthetic. Reading something – seems to encourage you to actively imagine the visual in your mind – and feel it. Watching a video – takes away from you the opportunity to “visualize” inside your mind – and gives you only two thirds of the experience inside – you only have to “listen and watch” passively. Get how powerful this is? What if you helped us train the next generation this way? Do you think it might have a HUGE impact in the world? Let us know.
