Flying Miracles by Mr. Twenty Twenty
Hey mate,
Miracles.
How many have you had today?
How many have you noticed?
So almost 20 years ago I was a hostage in one of the worst prison riots in the history of the United States. Surviving that was a miracle. Who I have become since, that’s another miracle.
Who are you becoming? What miracle are you living, inspiring, nurturing today?
Meet my friend Fred. Fred is one of my daily miracles.
Carol and I don’t know what Fred is. He’s bigger than our ducks, smaller than our geese, he hangs with both the ducks and geese. He’s just, “Fred”.
Yesterday, we got to watch him fly for the first time. Today while we were cooking out breakfast, he flew over to join us. We enjoyed both his flight and his visit.
To most everyone else, a goofy looking bird flying isn’t a miracle. To us, well it makes me laugh, cry, and appreciate the joy of life. His beauty and joy, invites me to reveal mine.
Fred is the joy of life. Just watching him “being joy” inspires me.
So how does that fit in with “the big picture”?
What I do, is help people notice and have more “joy” in their lives. I do this by helping people to temporarily experience “stuff of life” outside of their normal filters.
For years, I have been using what I learned from some old NLP guys, and some Native American elders, to help people to “step outside” their filters.
Just entertain this, the amount of joy you experience, and the amount of success you have, is filtered.
Every perception you have, and every communication you make is “filtered”.
In Ho’oponopono they would say “memory” gets in the way.
The elders would say your “way of perceiving” gets in the way.
An cop sees a different world than a social worker. Both of them see a different world than an old man, or a young girl.
Here’s what is cool in my life…
I don’t do much. I don’t fix people. I don’t use techniques to change clients.
I simply notice what they have been missing. And I help them notice key parts of what they have been missing, and how they filter their lives…
And often both me and my clients giggle about this. Because life can be just that joyful, and thinking your filtered perceptions can be just silly enough to giggle about.
Here’s the key, everyone does this.
I was blessed with a miracle called Post Traumatic Stress Disorder after being taken hostage back in 1989. That blessing gave me tons of stress and flashbacks, because everything got filtered by “hostage” filters for a while.
What freed me? Learning how to notice more.
Learning how to notice much much more.
And how to judge, prepare, and protect less.
(And I’m not perfect, and not interested in that either. I just keep noticing filters, and how to step out of them… and notice more.)
Back to Fred.
Fred like most animals doesn’t have filters. Filters lead to “stories”. Stories like, I can be happy later, once I get this or do that. Fred doesn’t have those stories either.
People are driven by stories. Mostly, they are driven nuts by stories.
Anyhoo, if you want to experience less stories, step outside of your filters, and just share some joy of discovery with me, there are some links below to help you do that.
Come join me, Fred, and Carol sometime. You’ll probably find like many others that you are glad you did.
Hugs and whooo yah!
Your friend,
