There are two kinds of failure.

Failure type 1: Failing because you thought about something and you never did it.

Failure type 2: Failing because you did something, and it didn’t work out as you thought it would.

Men, real men, men who have some degree of satisfaction and success in life, are willing to experience the type 2 failure more often than the type 1.

Real men, they are willing to DO SOMETHING, and have it not work out.  They understand, that you can’t get closer to your results, IF you don’t do something.

As a bonus, EVERY TIME you work toward a success, and you FAIL, you have very valuable opportunities to LEARN, GROW, AND GET STRONGER.

Who doesn’t want to Learn, Grow, and Get Stronger?

So go forth! Take action!

Indiana Jones and your wedding.

“Will you marry me?”  Those 4 words, mean something.   If you ask them, and she says yes, you’ve only just begun.  You are engaged.

It’s the same with sales guys.

If you ask for a sale, and they say yes, you’ve only just begun.  You are engaged.

I have 2 men in my coaching program called “Depth” right now.  They paid me some decent buckos, to have me engage them, so they can engage life more.

We talk on the phone once a week, they listen to stuff, their lives change.  Because we all are ENGAGING more.

Note:  In The Depth Program, we don’t chat.  We talk like men should talk.  Most of the time we laugh deep laughs, often we share deep insights, and once in a while, we throw down on each other.  In other words, we engage, and we become better men because of it.  We go where we need to go and shifts happen.   My goal isn’t to have them as clients who come and lay down on my couch once a week forever.  My goal is to have them engage life more fully and more completely in ten weeks.  That’s The Depth Program.

On the other hand…

That guy who changed his name to the number of perfect vision, because you living your vision perfectly matters!

I read an article on Marc and Angel today, about a woman who refused to see herself as beautiful.

It was a sad article, because what it shared seems to be so common.  It was an inspiring article, because what it shared said tons about the state of both men and women today.

My comment on the Marc and Angel site was almost something like this:

It’s sad when a woman asserts she is beautiful.  It’s more sad when a woman asserts she is not.

It’s beautiful, when a woman discovers she is beautiful in the moment, and that gets noticed in the world.

Men, you’ve got a job today.  Notice the beauty in the world around you. Notice the beauty in the women around you.

Just notice it.  Just sit with it.  Just allow it to nurture you.

If you can do just this, your world will be revitalized from within.

As you succeed in doing this, let me know how you did it, and what you noticed.

Get goodies that change the universe.

I was working in an old folks home about 10 years after my near death experience.   Burt, was a patient there.   The last time I saw him “living”, he had a look in his eyes, a look that only a man who had made peace with death has.

About 45 minutes later, the nurses found him.  Somehow, Burt had gotten a rubber ball that was used to prevent his fingers from digging into his palm into his mouth, he suffocated, and he died.

I don’t know how the rubber ball that helped him to die got into his mouth, I don’t know how long it had been planned, but I do know Burt knew that he was going to die.

I had seen that look before, but I didn’t know what it was.   The old man who looked at me like that before was my Grandfather.  I was younger then, it was before I had died and come back.

Pete, my Grandfather had cancer.  He had been dying for some time.   I tried to deny it.  He had totally accepted it.   As I walked out the door of his house, in denial, going to see my girlfriend, he sat there, in acceptance, knowing that he had made his peace with the biggest event of his life.  He had made peace with his death.

Men make peace with their death.

I look around, I see grown men, trying to be teenagers again. Dressing cool, talking cool, sometimes even taking it to the extreme of going after young chicks.  All trying in vein to deny death.  And in denying death, they skip out on life.

I see “grown men”, attempting to skip out on death. It’s maybe the only thing more silly than skipping out on your promise and potential, yet its something I see men doing all the time.

Keep in mind here, I’m not throwing stones, and I do live in a glass house.   Because the past twenty years have taught me something…

“Just because death isn’t a problem, doesn’t mean life is easily lived.”

Everyday I have countless opportunities to really live.  Somedays, I live pretty darn full out.  Other days, it seems as if I could have done a better job at it.

For what it’s worth, sharing this with you, and letting this show up in my trainings, for some reason invites me to live a little more.

Sharing this invites me to live a little more fully.

Sharing this invites me to live a little more completely.

Sharing this invites me to live, a little more with you.

What will you do today, as a man, to make peace

with both death and with life?

Death and life.  They really can’t be separated you know.

And as far as I can tell, this ain’t something “philosophical”, it’s something…. worth…. sharing.

Way of The Scout

Most men don’t have a life.

Most men don’t have a life. It might be hard to admit, but look around, if you see that that’s you, that’s okay. Keep looking around, and you’ll see that you aren’t alone.

Most men don’t have a life. Far from it. And the sooner we admit it and begin doing something about it, the sooner we can be what we were designed to be, do what we were designed to do, and have a the feelings of satisfaction, energy, power and joy that we are supposed to have.

So let’s take a moment, and begin to explore what it takes, to be a man.

Real men live by principles. Principles that benefit more than just themselves or just a chosen few.

Powerful Principles  =  Empowering Relationships

Many men don’t live by principles that are powerful.

Maybe that’s why many men don’t have the relationships they long for.   If your principles don’t redefine you, and challenge you to grow, your relationships will be overtaxed and under enjoyed.

This seems to be true with the fellowship men have with men, as well as with their romantic / spousal relationships.

Grandpa used to say, if you aren’t being a man, how can you expect people to treat you like one.

Are you stuck in the Man Trap?

Then there is the “doing what men do to prove I am a man syndrome”. The easy to see false bravado.  It reminds me of the young kids I see at our riverpark, dropping the f-bomb, asserting they are adults.

They aren’t adults.  Just like the “men” who try to assert that they are men still aren’t men.

The other extreme is the Barbie Man.

How many times have you seen men apologize for being men?

Not just with words, but more importantly by choosing to become impotent, weak, or wussified.

How many times have you done this?

Both the Man Trap and the Barbie Man are extremes.

The heart centered path, the path of the warrior, the knight, the sage, the leader. That is the path many wusses would say is extreme.   But look around, is there any other way that will get our world, our economy, our neighborhoods back on track.

Will the countless men walking around being Barbie Men or full of false bravado change the world?  Or will you step up?

It’s time to wake up buckwheat!

It’s time to develop the strength, the skills, the principles, and the dedication  that it takes to be a man.

The world deserves it.  So do you.

And after you have that shift, you don’t ever have to assert being a man again.

You won’t need to.

It’s time to live the life you are designed to live.

It took me having my life fall apart, and getting help from elders and mentors and some truly REAL MEN, to get to where I am now. And I still grow, strengthen and develop as a man, every single day.

I bet you can discover that success that comes from living your vision is extremely satisfying.

I bet that someone, maybe you, will rise up, and join me, on the path to not only becoming a man, but also helping other men to do the same.
